Iberdrola is building Europe's largest underground hydroelectric storage system, a ‘gigabattery’, in Galicia. The €1.5bn project uses existing reservoirs to store solar and wind energy. With a capacity of 1800 MW and production of 4 000 GWh, it can power 10 million households. Construction will create 3,000 jobs and minimise environmental impact by reusing infrastructure.
