Champagne vs. Cava vs. Espumoso
On International Champagne Day, we once again raised a glass to bubbles – but what exactly is the difference?
Champagne comes exclusively from the Champagne region in France and owes its refined mousse to a second fermentation in the bottle.
Cava, mainly from Catalonia, is made using the same method but has a fresher, fruitier taste.
Espumoso is the general name for sparkling wine, regardless of origin.
France remains the world leader in sales, but Spanish cava is rapidly gaining ground as a stylish and affordable alternative. Whatever you choose, bubbles always mean celebration.
