NEWS AND FACTS FROM SPAIN
Spain received almost 9.4 million foreign tourists in May 2025, 1.5% more than in May 2024.
Most tourists came from the UK (2.05 million), followed by France, Germany, Italy and the Nordic countries.
The Netherlands supplied 495,076 tourists (-2%), Belgium 266,415 (+6.1%). So far in 2025, more Dutch people (+6.8%) and slightly fewer Belgians (-0.3%) came than last year.
Top destinations were the Balearic Islands, Catalonia and Andalusia.
A new 58-storey residential tower may be built in Benidorm to replace the Gemelos 28 building.
It would be demolished in 2029. The new tower will be narrower but taller, with 58 small flats and a technical floor.
The site falls in a zone with no maximum building height, provided there is distance from the plot boundary. The demolition, imposed by the courts because of unjustified permits from 2005, will cost around 100 million euros. The 320 owners will be reimbursed their purchase price plus 20%.
The project encounters strict coastal building regulations.
