Brussels questions Spain’s migration plans
The European Commission is taking a critical view of Spain’s plans to regularise a large group of migrants.

According to reports, Spain is considering granting residence permits to hundreds of thousands of undocumented migrants. This would allow them to work and live legally. Brussels, however, stresses that this goes beyond a national decision.

Once regularised in Spain, these people would be free to move within the EU. And that is precisely the cause for concern: a single decision could have consequences for the whole of Europe.

Spain defends the plan by pointing to labour market shortages and the importance of this group to the economy. Legalising them would reduce exploitation and strengthen the labour market.

Nevertheless, the issue remains sensitive. Migration is under political pressure in Europe, and any major decision can affect relations between Member States.

A final decision has not yet been made, but the message from Brussels is clear: take the European impact into account.

Dutch buyers are taking the Spanish property market by storm in 2026
It is no longer just a feeling, but a stark reality: Dutch people are buying property in Spain in droves.

This rise was particularly evident towards the end of 2025.

In the final quarter, 1,632 properties were purchased by Dutch buyers, representing substantial growth compared to both the previous quarter (+15%) and the previous year (+10.5%).

As a result, Dutch buyers are rapidly gaining ground among foreign buyers, particularly on the coast.

 

This demand is having an impact. In regions such as the Costa Blanca and Costa del Sol, prices are rising noticeably. Dutch buyers are bidding more frequently and more quickly, and often above the asking price – something they are accustomed to in their own country.

Their preferences are also changing. It is no longer just about a holiday flat.

More and more buyers are looking for space and comfort, often a little further from the coast. Spain is becoming less of a holiday destination and increasingly a place to actually live or stay for the long term.

Everything points to this trend continuing into 2026. More demand, less supply and therefore sustained price pressure.
